Russ Greene
Russ Greene is a lead singer and guitarist from Harford County, an area generally regarded as an arts-supported melange of both downhome and uppercrust country living, situated northeast of Baltimore, Maryland. A North Harford High alumnus, Russ was raised at home listening to classic rock from the 1950s and beyond. He arguably spent more time on stage than in his senior year of high school. Russ started gigging in 1984, the same year his friend Ernie got him to start playing the guitar. Just a few years later, The Russ Greene Band formed as a blues-driven rock trio, performing Russ’s original music, in addition to covers from artists like Stevie Ray and Wilson Pickett.
Russ’s wonderful baritone voice lends a richness and authenticity to his vocals, whether he’s singing the blues, rock, or mainstream contemporary music. He’s also a lefty who plays right-handed. Guitar enthusiasts herald his tone and brag about his articulate technique, which employs everything from awesome shredding to unique, three-finger guitar string picking, while still using a guitar pick with his thumb and index finger. Known as a “MacGyver” for anything construction or mechanical, Russ has custom built several of the guitars he gigs with. His diverse band experiences have solidified his playing to include blues rock, hard rock, pop/Top 40, southern rock, country, metal, and more. But it’s his raw talent and undeniable verve that led him to humbly share the stage with many mid-Atlantic legends he admires. Notable Russ Greene Band performances include shows at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore and Club 66 in Edgewood, Maryland. But if you ask Russ, his gigs for homegrown folks at countless watering holes and private events in Baltimore, York, Frederick, Annapolis and beyond are just as meaningful, sometimes even moreso.
Currently, Russ plays with his friends on many of the Vaguely Absurd gigs (https://barryprosser.com/shows.html), led by Baltimore’s unsung hero Barry Prosser. Don’t let this serious bio steer you wrong about Russ. While he’s a serious musician and family man, he's also total goofball full of antics and jokes (especially the naughty ones). The new Chuggalug is honored to have Russ Greene on vocals and guitar. We look forward to bringing you a new Chugg flavor in our original music and cover tunes. Stay tuned in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania for our upcoming shows!
